Surgical Techniques
Bariatric surgery comprises several techniques used to close off a large portion of the stomach, leaving only a small pouch for food. This allows a person to feel full after eating much smaller portions of food, causing rapid weight loss.
Through the bariatric (weight loss) program at RWJ Hamilton, Dr. Noyan performs both the minimally invasive Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y (RNY) Gastric Bypass and the Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band procedures.
- Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass
This minimally invasive procedure uses staples to create a small upper stomach pouch which restricts intake of food. A portion of the small intestine is bypassed to limit absorption of the food that is consumed.
- Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band
This minimally invasive procedure places an adjustable band around the top portion of the stomach, thereby restricting food intake without bypassing any of the small intestines. This surgical option can be reversed if needed.
