Cancer Institute of New Jersey Hamilton to Host Lilly Oncology on Canvas Art Exhibition

Traveling Exhibition Displays Artwork by Cancer Survivors and their Loved Ones

10/30/2009

HAMILTON, NEW JERSEY - The Cancer Institute of New Jersey Hamilton (CINJ Hamilton) and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton (RWJ Hamilton) will host Lilly Oncology on Canvas, November 9 to 20, an art exhibition honoring the physical and emotional journeys people face from a cancer diagnosis.

Touring communities nationwide, Lilly Oncology on Canvas will showcase art at both CINJ Hamilton and RWJ Hamilton from the 2008 national competition. Over 600 pieces of art from people across the United States and Puerto Rico were entered into the competition in which 26 prizes were awarded to 20 cancer charities.

“The Lilly art exhibit puts onto canvas the feelings and emotions that many of our patients here at CINJ Hamilton experience,” says Lisa Breza, executive director CINJ Hamilton. “The artwork resonates with our patients, as well as those who visit our facility.”

The traveling art exhibition is currently touring hospitals, cancer centers, patient advocacy group meetings, and other venues throughout 2009. Subjects of the artwork range from fear, to the loss of individualism, to the support of family and friends, to the memory of those lost, to the perseverance of those who survive.

The artwork will be displayed in the CINJ Hamilton lobby, as well as the walkway above the Roma Bank Garden Café at RWJ Hamilton. The public is welcome to view the displayed artwork at both locations November 9 to 20 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
